Government rules, translated into real life.

usatosweden.se is an independent guide for Americans who are planning a move to Sweden, have just arrived, or are still discovering what nobody thought to explain.

Why this exists

Sweden has excellent information. It is just spread across ten different systems.

Migrationsverket can tell you about residence permits. Skatteverket can explain population registration. Försäkringskassan can explain social insurance. Transportstyrelsen can explain driving licences. The IRS can explain an FBAR.

What they generally do not do is explain how all of those things collide in the life of one American moving to Sweden.

That is the gap this site is designed to fill: practical context, plain language and enough detail to know which official authority you should consult next.

01 / PLAIN LANGUAGE

Explain the rule, then explain what it means.

No unnecessary bureaucratic translation layer.

02 / AMERICAN-SPECIFIC

Call out the problems Swedes do not have.

U.S. tax filing, FBAR, FATCA, PFICs and other cross-border complications deserve their own treatment.

03 / DATE-SENSITIVE

Important guides show when they were updated.

Immigration and citizenship rules change. Old information should look old.

04 / USE THE SOURCE

Official agencies outrank expat folklore.

Community experience is useful for context, but legal and administrative claims should be checked against the authority responsible.

Advertising & sponsors

Useful partners, clearly separated from the advice.

The design reserves space for direct sponsors, relevant affiliate partners and occasional paid placements without turning every article into an ad wall. Paid placements should always be labeled, and payment should never determine the editorial conclusion of a guide.
